About Shri Sudershan Singh ‘Chakra’

Shri Sudershan Singh Ji ‘Chakra’ has contributed a great wealth to the Bhakti Sahitya of India. He was born in a small village called Bhelhata in then Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh on 14 November 1911 to Thakur Ram Kishore Ji Singh and Smt. Saroopa Ji. (Bhelhata is 6 km from Sakaldia railway station now part of present day Chandauli District. Chandauli is around 30 km from Varanasi.) He had a happy and prosperous family but by the time he was about 15 years old, one by one his dear uncle Shri Ramagya Singh Ji, mother, younger sister Jayanti, father and brother Samajh Singh(Savru) left for the higher abode and he was all alone. When his brother left for higher adobe, Sri Krishna became his younger brother whom he started calling Kanhai. Henceforth all through his life his Kanhai never left him even for a moment. Shri Baldev(Dauji) was his guru and Hanumanji was his elder brother-dada. Shri Ram Ji and Sitaji were his Father and Mother and Parvati Ji and Shanker Ji were his grand parents.

He could have formal education only upto class seven but he had a deep yearning for reading books and gained the knowledge which is very rare even in great scholars. He fought for the freedom, but never accepted any reward or title proposed for him. He never accepted any charity from anyone, his only possessions were two dhoties, one shawl, one towel and picture of his Kanhai, all in one small bag. To meet his requirements, he worked as a writer or editor. He had edited many ‘visheshank’ of Kalyan magazine brought out by Gita press., Shri Krishan Sandesh by Shri Krishana Janam Sthan Mathura, Vivek Rashmi by Parmarth Ashram , Manas Mani of Ramvan Satna, sankirtan of Meerut Swami Shri Akhandanand Swarswati Ji Maharaj  had been most dear to him. Swamiji had immense love for him and was like an elder brother and guardian. Credit of establishing Hanumadh Dham and 77 feet high idol of hunumanji containing 700 crores names goes to Chakraji. He left for Golok on 25 September 1989 in Etah. His last rites were conducted on banks of Ganges at Shuktal.

Chakra ji always said that he just held the pen and his Kanhai did the rest. The most extraordinary thing is the declaration in all his books –” Everyone has the right to publish, translate or quote a part or whole of this book.”

Chakra ji’s books are great treasure. There are people getting them published time to time, but there is no well developed circulation system, so people may not know about the books or from where to get them.

I am taking the advantage of his declaration and publishing the books on clouds to make them available to the seekers all over the earth.

This is my tribute to Sri Chakra ji whose pen has bestowed upon me the great gift of love for Kanhai.
